WORDLESS NARATIVE FAIRYTALES

below is my pre-major university project, the brief i set myself was wordless narratives of both 'red riding hood' and 'the frog prince' within 14 spreads and an extremely limited colour pallet.

i created a double-sided concertina of two Grimms tales with these illustrations and as well as being my pre-major project i submitted it to the V and A Illustration awards. my aim for this project was to create illustration to be strong enough support by itself and be easily understandable for children.

The concertina will be 14 spreads long and be able to be read as a typical book and stretched out fully. I will be experimenting with my spread compositions some spreading over 4 pages and some on only one to take advantage of my format. This means I will be completing 28 spreads in total; these spreads were traditionally illustrated with ink and acrylic with some uses of graphite. then cleaned up digitally in preparation for printing.

Within this project I wanted to explore how children consume picture books while creating a physical and tactile piece that can be interacted with.
